Epcot Center Facts
Epcot Center is a theme park located at the Walt Disney World
resort. This park was one of Walt Disney's dream projects before he passed away. It is one of four major theme parks the resort has to offer. This park offers thril rides, educational shows, shopping and many dining choices.
Name
EPCOT is an acronym that stands for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. This came about because Walt Disney wanted a place where he could showcase his vision of the future.
Areas
Epcot Center is broken down into two areas. Future World is focused on innovation and technological advancements. World Showcase is an area that brings together 11 countries' cultures around the World Showcase Lagoon.
History
Ground was broken for Epcot on Oct. 1, 1979. Its grand opening was held Oct. 1, 1982. The park opened with 13 "pavilions," which are themed buildings housing several attractions. Throughout its 27-year history is has added six more pavilions, four in Future World and two in World Showcase.
Size
Epcot Center is more than 300 acres---more than twice the size of the Magic Kingdom park at Walt Disney World.
Attractions
Attractions at Epcot range from slow-moving boat rides to fast thrill rides. Attractions include Soarin, which takes people on a hang glider flight over California, and Test Track, a high-tech auto testing facility.
