Downtown San Francisco
Nine miles from the Embassy Suites in South San Francisco is downtown San Francisco. Here you will find the main shopping district of Union Square. It is surrounded by ritzy shops, art galleries and major department store chains. From Union Square you can also catch the cable cars from the foot of Powell Street or go through the tunnel to get to Chinatown.
San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge
Twelve miles from the Embassy Suites in South San Francisco is the Bay Bridge. It is a massive expanse that links San Francisco with Oakland. The middle of the Bay Bridge passes over Treasure Island. Stop there to get a great view of San Francisco and the entire bay. The Bay Bridge is also your link to the university community of Berkeley. The univeristy is just north of Oakland on I-580.
San Francisco Piers
Thirteen miles from the Embassy Suites in South San Francisco are the piers. Fisherman's Wharf is a great place to get fresh seafood right off the dock. Pier 39 is a tourist center full of shops and street entertainment. Pier 33 is where you catch the ferry to Alcatraz to tour the former island prison.
Golden Gate Bridge
Fifteen miles from the Embassy Suites in South San Francisco is the Golden Gate Bridge. The best way to experience it is to drive over it from San Francisco to Sausalito. Exit on the first ramp after the bridge to get to the viewpoint looking back over the expanse. Take the next exit, pass under the highway, then go up the hill to get a view of the entire Golden Gate Bridge with San Francisco in the background.
