Dunes Village
resort is a 14-storied beachfront property in Myrtle
beach, South Carolina. The resort has 496 rooms and suites spread over two phases, the Palmetto Towers and the newer Palm Towers. Dunes was listed among Expedia Insider's Select top 1 percent of hotels in the world in 2008 and was voted number two in America by Travelers Choice Awards.
Wows and Woes
Dunes resort features amply furnished suites, many of them with a view of the ocean. The beach is a short walk away. The hotel's indoor water park, spanning 30,000 square feet, offers several water pools and wet play areas for kids and grown-ups and an adult-sized water slide.
Located between South and North Myrtle Beach in a quieter part of the city, Dunes is a few minutes' drive away from bustling shopping malls, the boardwalk, dining and entertainment avenues. So, if you're looking for commercial activity, Dunes may not be the ideal choice.
Insider Tips
If an oceanfront suite is beyond your budget or not available, opt for an angle-ocean-view room instead. Many of the angle-ocean-view suites, especially those located closer to the beach, have almost as good a view as the oceanfront rooms and may also be priced lower.
Author's Most Memorable Moment
Nothing prepared me for the glorious sunrise from our angle-ocean-view room. Our room's view, which was located relatively close to the beach, was as beautiful as that from an oceanfront room. I can say this with certainty, as we had the opportunity to stay at both types of rooms.
Bottom Line
Dunes Village Resort is a family-friendly beachfront hotel. The indoor water park is probably the best feature, as it allows guests to enjoy their stay even during inclement weather.
