Things to Do on Spring Break in New York
Spring break brings images of parties in Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Nassau, and Panama City
beach to mind immediately. The looming skyline of
New York City is usually far at the bottom of the list. This shouldn't be the case. Spring makes for a great time to come to New York, as it's still a slow tourism time, meaning that the hotels and the attractions will be cheaper. It will be a bit colder than Cancun, but the city makes up for that with amount of things to do.
Catch a Knicks Game
Situated in one of the most historical arenas in the world, a Knicks game is a night that won't soon be forgotten. While the action on the floor features some of the world's best players, the action in the stands can be just as entertaining. New York fans have a reputation as being some of the most energetic in the country. It's easy to get caught up in the action and start cheering and jeering with the locals.
Go to a Broadway Show
Broadway is the capital of theater in the US and the shorthand for any major theatrical spectacle. Coming to New York and not seeing a show there almost seems like a trip wasted, especially considering that the prices for tickets to shows will probably be at their lowest all year. It all adds up to a golden opportunity to see some of the world's best theater. Broadway has made life even easier for enterprising show-goers, creating the TKTS booth. The TKTS booth (not pronounced "tickets") releases tickets to shows throughout the day at a heavily discounted rate (up to 50 percent). With this kind of deal, it's impossible to miss a show on Broadway.
A Day in Central Park
Right in the middle of one of the world's most densely populated areas is Central Park, a haven of greenery in the bustling big city. Central Park makes for a beautiful day in the city, whether it's simply going out and having a picnic, or making it a day and taking in all the activities the park has to offer. Before anything, a traveler should dress the right way for the park. Though it may look sunny, the weather can become very brisk during March. Take a decent jacket to stay comfortable. At the Lake, rent paddle-boats and row boats for romantic and fun rides on the water. The various trails and roads make sure that no journeys, much like the park's various bridges, are alike. However, the conscientious traveler should look out for the infamously insane bike riders in the park who have been known to run down anything in their path.
