Valentine's Day Dinner

New York City, with the sparking lights of Broadway, the horse-drawn carriages and romantic restaurants is a perfect place to take your loved one for a Valentine's Day meal. For a romantic dinner at an affordable price, eat at The Place. This restaurant offers both American and pan-European food. The Blue Hill restaurant serves a "hands free" meal every Valentine's Day. This low-profile, off-beat restaurant uses fresh foods in season in its menu. If you'd like to dine with your loved one in a restaurant that was once a carriage house, eat at One if By Land, Two if By Sea. With cozy fireplaces, live music and dim lighting, it's no wonder that this restaurant is considered one of the most romantic restaurants in New York City.

Chinese Lunar New Year
The Chinese Lunar New Year can fall anywhere between late January and the middle of February--so check to see if this holiday will coincide with your visit. If so, head to Chinatown to enjoy the festivities. Watch colorful dragons and lions dance down the street in the Dragon Parade. For a real "bang" go to the Firecracker Ceremony. And, of course, don't forget to enjoy some good Chinese food.
Westminster Kennel Club and Annual Dog Show
Head to Madison Square Garden for the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Every February people bring their pooches to this annual show. During the two-day event, 170 breeds and varieties of dogs are judged. The Westminster Club Dog Show was established in 1877 and is dedicated to the sport of purebred dogs. This is a ticketed event.

Groundhog Day at Staten Island Zoo
Will the groundhog see his shadow? Find out at the Staten Island Zoo. On February 2 at 7:30 a.m. Staten Island Chuck will decide if there will be another six weeks of winter. After the ceremonies, take the kids to eat breakfast with Staten Island Chuck as the guest of honor. There is a fee for the breakfast, but the ceremony is free.
