Lake George is located in the Adirondack Mountains. A prime tourist destination in the beginning of the 19th century, the area still attracts families and nature lovers, especially during the summer and autumn season. Popular because of its clean, clear waters and magnificent mountain trails, this is a place to relax and enjoy nature.
Enjoy the Water

It shouldn't come as a surprise that Lake George is famous for its water-based attractions. This includes everything from adventure sports rafting to river tubing to a leisure ride on an authentic Paddlewheeler such as the Lac du Saint Sacrement or the Mohican. Lake tours are available throughout the day and in the evenings, lasting anywhere from one to three hours. For families, the Enchanted Forest/Water Safari, in Lake George, is a great water park featuring over 50 rides, including rapids, ponds and tidal wave pools, as well as amusement rides such as bumper cars and carousels.

Fort William Henry

A recreated fort (built near its original placement near the lake), Fort William Henry was once a main point of battle between British and French forces fighting for dominance of the area, as far back as 1754. Open between May and October, the most exciting attractions are outdoors, where you can be present for cannon firing, walk around costumed guides and see a musket ball demonstration. The many indoor rooms showcase archaeological finds, uniforms and guns. There are special programs for kids, ghost walks and special events throughout the year.

Hike Up Prospect Mountain

Those with a strong heart should probably attempt the hike up Prospect Mountain on their own. While not everybody will make it up the strenuous 1 5/8-mile trail, there are numerous spots along the way where it's possible to stop for a rest, have a quick picnic or simply enjoy the view. Those who prefer a more mellow trip can jump into the "viewmobiles" on their way up and then hike to the base of the mountain (rather than the other way around).
