With 12 miles of beachfront, Hilton Head is a popular vacation destination for over two million tourists each year. In addition to the beaches, a variety of activities are available for families, ranging from museums to restaurants to miniature golf.
Outdoor Activities

Kids can search for shells and build sandcastles on Hilton Head's Atlantic-front beaches. The whole family can look for wildlife at Pinckney Island Nature Preserve. Area golf courses offer opportunities for parents and kids alike to play 18 holes. Golf academies also hold summer camps to teach kids how to play.

Dining

Hilton Head has over 250 restaurants, many of which have patios for outdoor dining. Try the local seafood, or choose one of many other types of cuisine, such as Mexican, Thai, Japanese, Greek and French.

Museums

Several of Hilton Head's museums offer family activities. The Coastal Discovery Museum has exhibits and activities that provide information about Hilton Head Island and other sea islands. The museum also offers 11 different cruises and tours around the island. The Sandbox is an interactive museum specifically designed for children. The hands-on exhibits help children learn and have fun.

Activities

For a small admission fee, families can climb to the top of the Harbour Town Lighthouse in Sea Pines and view the island's south end. Other activities in Sea Pines include shopping, restaurants and horseback riding. Play a round or two of miniature golf, or step inside Island Playground. This indoor playground has inflatable slides and obstacle courses as well as a dress-up area and castle. An annual St. Patrick's Day Parade is held every March and attracts thousands of spectators.

Entertainment

See a play at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina, or catch a concert by the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra. Various arts camps are also available at the Arts Center. If your kids aren't into the arts, catch a film at one of the three movie theaters in town.
