Review of Disney's Port Orleans Resort in Riverside

Disney's Port Orleans Riverside is designed to evoke memories of the Old South. This sprawling moderate-category resort is split into two distinct sections, each with its own look. Magnolia Bend features stately southern manors complete with grand columns, while Alligator Bayou is made up of cabin-style buildings providing a more rural feel. Pools, a spa and other activities can be found at the centrally located "Ol' Man Island," and five other pools are scattered across the resort.
Wows and Woes

The single best live entertainer at any Disney resort can be found here in the form of "Yehaa" Bob Jackson. Yehaa Bob plays piano and leads singalongs at the River Roost Lounge, Wednesday through Saturday nights, but check at the resort to confirm show times.

I've never been convinced that the Disney Moderates are worth the extra money over the value resorts, and Riverside has done nothing to change that opinion. It's a nice resort, but not so much nicer that it's worth the extra money, especially if you don't spend much time in your room.

Insider Tips

If you want to be closest to the main building, ask for a room in Alligator Bayou buildings 14, 15 or 18, or Magnolia Bend's Oak Manor.

Author's Most Memorable Moment

We opted to take the free water taxi to Downtown Disney. The 20-minute ride was almost an attraction unto itself as the boat traveled peacefully past some of the other resorts along the man-made Sassagoula River as instrumental Disney music came in through the speakers. After a long day of walking, I was thrilled to learn that the boat let us off right behind the restaurant where we had dinner reservations.

Bottom Line

It's one of the best of Disney's moderate resorts, but consider a value Disney hotel if you spend little time at your hotel.
