The city of Williamsburg is located near the eastern shore of Virginia. It is perhaps best known for its rich Colonial history as the one of the first and largest American colonies. It's also the home of the College of William and Mary. Williamsburg features several notable area restaurants by combining the past and present.
The Trellis
The Trellis restaurant lies adjacent to the Colonial Williamsburg historic area in Merchant Square, which is a retail village with an 18th-century design. The restaurant has an open, contemporary feel and features a menu that takes advantage of seasonal ingredients. The menu also makes use of the proximity to the eastern shore, highlighting grilled fish, crab cakes and scallops. The Trellis' claim to fame is being the birthplace of the famous "Death by Chocolate" cake. After dessert, you can enjoy a stroll through Merchant Square, where you will find more than 40 shops and restaurants.

Shields Tavern
Shields Tavern is one of the five taverns in the historic Colonial Williamsburg area. During its 18th-century heyday you would have dined and lodged at the tavern; today, you can take in the period atmosphere and dine on the seasonal menu, which utilizes what is freshest in local markets. All of the Southern recipes are inspired by their Colonial counterparts. The entrees range from southern fried chicken to a Colonial take on shepherd's pie, the crust filled with braised venison, duck and rabbit. Check ahead for reservations and to ensure the Tavern is open, as all the taverns are run seasonally.

College Delly & Pizza Restaurant
The College Delly comes out of the past in this popular college restaurant. Step inside the small, white brick building to a college dive feel, or dine outside on the covered patio. You'll be surrounded with all things William and Mary, as the booths are decorated in the College's colors, and graduation and Greek life pictures adorn the walls. The menu is straightforward with a wide selection of pizza, subs, Greek food and beer on tap. If you wish to tour William and Mary, you won't have far to go; the College Delly is located right across the street from the campus.
