The Apple iPod music player can download and play various types of music files. The type of file that you get on your ipod will depend on where you downloaded it from. Some of these file types may be specific to the iPod, and they may also be incompatible with other audio players on your computer or other types of Mp3 players. This means you'll have to change the format before you can use it elsewhere.
Instructions
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step 1
Transfer the file from your iPod back to your computer first. You'll need to do this in order to convert the format.
Step 2
Visit a website that has a conversion program available. An example is Format Factory (See Resources).
Step 3
Download and install the program to your computer. You can do this by opening the installation file once you've downloaded it.
Step 4
Begin the program and go to either "Audio" or "Video," depending on what kind of file the download is. For example, files like MP4 and Mov are videos, whereas files like MP3 and AAC are audio.
Step 5
Click on the button for the format file you want. Add your ipod download file with the "Add file" button and then click "Convert" on the main menu.
