If you are visiting Legoland, the Carlsbad Inn
beach resort in California is a great place to stay. There are connecting rooms for families, with kitchenettes. There is a pool, an adults-only hot tub, a fitness center and a small playground. There is a Mexican restaurant, cafe for breakfast and lunch, and a yogurt shop on site. You can walk to many restaurants.
Wows and Woes
There are lots of activities such as arts and crafts for kids, family movie night and tai chi.
The "adults only" sign at the hot tub is sometimes disregarded and you might feel churlish complaining.
Insider Tips
You can rent a movie at the hotel. Put the kids to bed and catch up on last year's Oscar nominees.
Author's Most Memorable Moment
We found the Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort to be a nice respite from the theme parks of Southern California. We had never sung karaoke and all got a kick out of singing (badly) in front of a roomful of strangers.
Bottom Line
Rooms are somewhat pricey, but for a hotel on the beach in this part of the country, the rates are reasonable.
