The Original Pancake House
A chain of restaurants founded in Portland, Oregon in 1953, the Original Pancake House offers a variety of waffles, pancakes and crepes. Eggs, cereals and breakfast meats are served in multiple combinations. Signature menu items include the apple pancake and Dutch baby. Sauteed apples and cinnamon sugar atop a pancake baked together form the apple pancake. The Dutch baby, which is of German origin, is baked until it is fluffy, then cooled to create a crater and dusted with powdered sugar. The restaurant provides a casual atmosphere and moderate prices for large meals.

Waffle House
Founded just outside of Atlanta in 1955, Waffle House has grown into a chain that is ubiquitous in the South. The breakfast menu is available 24 hours a day and is printed on the place mat. Waffles, eggs, breakfast meat (including steak and pork chops) and biscuits are available. The signature item, however, is hash browned potatoes. Ordering hash browns requires its own language; they can be served smothered (with onions), covered (with cheese) and topped (with chili), among other options.
This is an extremely casual restaurant that features booths and a breakfast bar open to the kitchen. Large meals are served for budget prices. There are dozens of Waffle House restaurants in the Atlanta area; see website to find the location nearest you.
