Virginia Beach
It's not easy to narrow down the best places to vacation or honeymoon in Virginia. Some of the most popular are the wide, busy
beaches of the coast; Richmond, Jamestown and Appomattox, all steeped in history; and Shenandoah National Park, known for its beauty.
Virginia Beach
Virginia beach, on top of being sunny and beautiful, offers activities such as swimming, boating and surfing. The boardwalk, spanning 3 miles, is dotted with restaurants and entertainment. Festivals and concerts are abundant here. If you'd prefer a more quiet visit, try Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge, a 9,108-acre refuge of barrier islands, dunes, marshes and beaches. Nearby is the 4,321-acre False Cape State Park, which has 6 miles of beaches in an ocean-to-freshwater bay habitat.
Richmond, Jamestown and Appomattox
Virginia's capital, Richmond, is abundant with Civil War history, including the Richmond Canal Walk and the National Battlefield Park. The Civil War Visitor Center or the Virginia Historical Society are great places for information and guidance. Jamestown was thought to be the first English settlement in the United States. You can experience "living history" on the site as well as at the Yorktown Victory Center. The Appomattox Court House National Park will bring the Civil War to life before your eyes with re-enactments, exhibits and theater. Nearby, you can find swimming, horseback riding and fishing at Holliday Lake.

Shenandoah National Park
Known for its breathtaking beauty, Shenandoah National Park is part of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The park has more than 500 trails, 101 miles of which are on the Appalachian Trail. You can hike, bike, fish, camp and tube down the Shenandoah River. Check out Luray Caverns, the largest in the eastern United States.
