New York City is by far America's most highly populated city. New York City is also one of America's most visited cities. Millions of people come every single year to the five boroughs of New York and be part of the city's pulsating energy. They also come to see the city's many varied attractions. New York City has much to offer the visitor interested in the arts, finance or history. New York City also has much to offer the younger visitor.
The Bronx Zoo
Take a car or subway ride to the Bronx Zoo. Located, as the name implies, in the heart of the borough of the Bronx, the Bronx Zoo is one of the world's greatest zoos. Situated on over two hundred acres the Zoo is home to thousands of exotic mammals and birds. Many of the zoo's exhibits are designed with children in mind. Children can ride the brightly colored insects of the bug carousel, interact with real live butterflies from around the world at the butterfly gardens, admire the many varied species of monkey at the monkey house and see dozens of different kinds of rodents at the mouse house. The zoo has a special children's zoo. This is where children can feed goats, sheep and llamas, smell a skunk, climb a spider's web, pet a rabbit, pose for a picture with a chicken or explore a prairie dog habitat. The zoo is open nearly every day of the year. Subways run from the zoo entrance to midtown Manhattan.

American Museum of Natural History
Visit the American Museum of Natural History. The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world's largest museums. Located right next door to Central Park, the museum is open for visitors most days of the year. The American Museum of Natural History has thousands of interactive exhibits designed to help the visitor enjoy the natural world. The museum has many activities for especially geared towards the interest of kids. The Discovery Room section of the museum works with children and their parents in a specially guided forty minute session where kids are encouraged to learn about natural history. Kids from five to twelve can meet working scientists, explore a replica of an African baobob tree, create their own collection of minerals, touch and feel an authentic Native American totem pole and track real live earthquakes with a seismograph.

Lincoln Center of the Performing Arts
Catch a performance at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. Located to the west of midtown Manhattan, Lincoln Center is home to several of the finest arts companies in the world. Companies that make their home here include the New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theater and the Metropolitan Opera. Lincoln Center is a must see for any would be dancer or music lover. Take kids to a ballet matinee or evening opera performance. In addition to watching the performance kids can also explore the exhibits available. Ballet costumes and musical instruments are often on display for visitors.
