Fishing has been a part of Oregon history from the time the Native Americans dominated the region. Located near the Pacific Ocean and home to numerous streams, lakes and rivers, Oregon is an ideal place to find freshwater and saltwater fish. Since the 1880s, settlers have harvested fish, setting up commercial fish farms. The best seafood restaurants in Portland support local fishers and fish farms, purchasing most of their seafood from them. The actions of these restaurants support the state's economy and promote fish preservations.
Bay 13 Restaurant
This establishment is one of the best seafood restaurants in Portland because it serves sustainable fish from fishers and farms that want to preserve fish habitats. Executive chef Mark Lusardi serves dishes influenced by international flavors. Yet the restaurant, located in a warehouse building in Portland's Pearl District, creates a relaxed environment, and customers feel as if they are dining in an industrial building. The Oyster Bar serves fresh shellfish daily, and the Crudo Bar has raw fish dishes. Patrons choose local and international wine from the two-page wine list. People who want to eat at this restaurant are encouraged to make reservations.
