Gone are the days when a trip to
Las Vegas meant eating at a $3.99 buffet. Now you can enjoy fine cuisine at Nobu (in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino) and Aureole (in the Mandalay Bay
resort and Casino). These are both branches of highly regarded
New York City restaurants. The chefs are not there full-time, but their vision is carried on.
Wows and Woes
Bento boxes are not just for lunch; Nobu has an exquisite dessert bento with a flourless chocolate cake and green tea ice cream.
Although each bite at Aureole is delicious, there is just too much foot served here; portions are enormous, and you are forced into choosing at least three courses.
Insider Tips
Although Nobu is known in New York for its sushi, remember that Vegas is land-locked. There are plenty of wonderful cooked dishes to sample here.
Author's Most Memorable Moment
We were eating in Nobu when a Vegas "high roller" was seated next to us. He had clearly had a great day at the tables and treated us to a glass of his champagne.
Bottom Line
Prices are very high at both, but the level of sophistication and craft that go into each meal make them worth it.
