The Grand Canyon tops the list of natural American wonders
The ideal travel destination for some is a natural wonder, such as the Grand Canyon, Mammoth Cave or Niagara Falls. Others may find that kicking back on the
beach and catching some rays on the Atlantic Ocean shores, or along the California coast, is more their style. Others may find that the characters of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck are right up their alley. Whatever your vacation ideal, there are choice destinations waiting for you within the
United States.
Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona
The Grand Canyon is one of the top vacation destinations. Carved by two billion years of erosion, the canyon displays an amazing range of natural color that is a wonder to behold. You can hike into the canyon, take a rafting trip down the Colorado River, fly over in a helicopter or small prop plane, or try a guided tour. If you are up for more adventure, you tour through the park on the back of a mule.
The South Rim, which is open all year round, generates a great deal of activity. There are lodges, a campground, places to shop, shuttle buses and restaurants in this area. The Desert View, also open all year round, is located on the east rim of the canyon and extends 26 miles. The North Rim is only open from the middle of May through the middle of October. Very few people visit this side of the Grand Canyon, although it offers a lodge and a campground. Reservations are strongly recommended throughout the year for camping and other activities.
