The Track Kitchen

Considered one of the city's best-kept secrets, the Track Kitchen at Keeneland horse track is not only a great place to find breakfast but also to mingle with some of the area's famous jockeys and trainers. On race and sale days, you can also get lunch in the restaurant. Except for the race meetings in April and October, admission to tKeeneland is free and breakfast should cost you about $6. The restaurant is open at 6 a.m. year-round except for major holidays and closes at 11 a.m.

The Garden Cafe

The Garden Cafe at Flag Fork Herb Farm has received raves from critics and locals for the fresh foods (using herbs grown by the couple who operates the farm and store on the property), friendly service and reasonable prices.

This popular restaurant is inside an old house and is known for the light fare and excellent desserts. It's been featured in Southern Living and is often busy with ladies out lunching or enjoying an afternoon tea on the beautifully landscaped greens, so reservations are recommended. The restaurant is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Bourbon and Toulouse

Bourbon and Toulouse, which has two locations, features cajun and creole favorites like etouffée, jambalaya, and beans and rice. All meals on the reasonably priced menu are $6.50 (as of July 2009) and include an entree, rice and two pieces of French bread. Free WiFi is available for customers in the laid-back dining room.
