The Best Hotels for Kids in San Diego
San Diego is a kid's paradise, and not just because of the beautiful sandy
beaches. The city boasts a number of attractions that are bound to capture the imagination of kids of all ages, including the San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld, PETCO Park and Legoland in nearby Carlsbad. San Diego has developed a well-deserved reputation for being a family destination, and most hotels offer a number of amenities geared towards younger travelers. From day camps to swimming lessons, some of San Diego's finest hotels are rolling out the red carpet for children.
Hilton San Diego Resort & Spa
Nestled in San Diego's Mission Bay, the four-star Hilton resort & Spa is less than a mile from SeaWorld, one of the area's most popular attractions for kids. The Hilton offers numerous activities to keep kids entertained, including arts and crafts and swimming lessons. A weekend kids camp lets parents slip away for some private time or a spa treatment, although you will pay an hourly charge for the service. Kids will also love making s'mores around the resort's outdoor fire pits at night.
Hotel del Coronado
The historical San Diego charm of the Hotel del Coronado appeals to adults and kids alike. Built in 1888, the hotel sits on a small peninsula just off the coast of San Diego, and was named one of the top 10 resorts in the country by USA Today. Your kids will never run out of things to do--surfing lessons, complimentary boogie boards and a day camp for children ages 4 through 12 will keep them busy throughout your stay. The hotel restaurants also feature kid-friendly menus. Be prepared to pay a little extra for all this family fun, since the Hotel del Coronado is a bit pricier than other local hotels.
Holiday Inn San Diego-Mission Bay
For those on a budget, the recently-renovated Holiday Inn in Mission Bay offers family-friendly lodging only minutes from SeaWorld and Old Town. Kids will enjoy the on-site arcade and outdoor pool, but you won't find the day camps or swimming lessons here that are offered at nearby resorts. Still, the prime location is hard to beat.
Hotel Solamar
The Hotel Solamar is a perfect launching point for exploring the city's bustling Gaslamp Quarter. Kids receive a welcome gift at arrival and can snuggle in their own animal-print robes in your guestroom. The rooftop pool and lounge area is not to be missed---it offers a stunning view of the San Diego skyline and the private cabanas help create a cozy atmosphere. The whole family can walk right around the corner to take in a baseball game at PETCO Park, home to the San Diego Padres.
Old Town Inn
If you're looking for more quaint lodging, the Old Town Inn provides a laid-back atmosphere in San Diego's historical district. Both SeaWorld and the San Diego Zoo are only a few miles from the hotel, and kids will enjoy the heated outdoor pool. The complimentary breakfast and wireless Internet access are also nice perks for families on a budget. Pets are welcome at the hotel for an extra charge.
