The Best Family Beaches in Corpus Christi
If you are looking for the perfect
beach vacation spot for your family in Corpus Christi, consider two things: First, is the beach kid-friendly? The last thing you want on your
family vacation is to expose your child to mature activities like nude sunbathing and drug use. Second, are there plenty of family activities available at the vacation site? Children want to have access to activities like cycling, beach volleyball, mini-golf and boating. Based on these criteria, the best family
beaches in Corpus Christi are North Beach, Padre Island National Seashore and Mustang Island.
North Beach
The USS Lexington Museum is located on North Beach.
North Beach, often referred to as Corpus Christi Beach, is a family-friendly beach with cabanas, picnic tables and showers. North Beach features such activities as kite flying, shell collecting, swimming and guided fishing trips. No driving is permitted on North Beach, so you will not have to worry about your children running in front of vehicles. The Radisson Hotel Corpus Christi is located on North Beach at 3200 Surfside Boulevard, making it a convenient lodging option for vacationing families. The Radisson caters to family beachgoers by renting beach equipment, offering family rooms, and assisting with directions to nearby attractions, such as the Texas State Aquarium and the USS Lexington Museum.
Padre Island National Seashore
Padre Island National Seashore offers baby sea turtles.
Padre Island National Seashore offers 70 miles of sandy beaches, dunes, breathtaking grasslands and warm waters that your whole family will enjoy. Children will especially love the Padre Island National Seashore activities designed for younger travelers, such as birding tours, star parties and camping. Padre Island National Seashore also offers a year-round Junior Ranger Program that teaches children ages 5-13 the importance of environmental responsibility through such activities as beach clean-ups. If your family is traveling to Corpus Christi between the months of May and August, be sure to visit Padre Island National Seashore for the sea turtle hatchling releases. During these releases, tourists gather to see the baby sea turtles take their first steps into the Gulf of Mexico. Many tourists who stay on Padre Island National Seashore will camp outside, but the Comfort Suites hotel located at 15209 Windward Drive is conveniently located for travelers who prefer to sleep indoors.
Mustang Island
Mustang Island boasts a wide range of marine life.
Mustang Island stretches from Corpus Christi to Port Aransas. This is a great beach spot to take your family to view marine life, including stingrays and blue herons. There are more than 600 documented species of saltwater fish in the water near Mustang Island. In addition to watching the wildlife, try swimming, camping, picnicking, hiking, cycling and kayaking during your family trip. If you prefer not to camp outdoors, try the Hampton Inn resort at 14430 S Padre Island Dr. for accommodations. The Hampton Inn is only a few minutes away from Mustang Island and offers free breakfast and a large heated pool.
