The Best Destination Weddings
For every couple, there is a perfect destination. While flying you, your fiance and possibly guests to a faraway place to get married might sound elaborate and expensive, you actually can save money by combining your wedding and honeymoon at one location.
The Beach
From Cancun to the Bahamas, there are a variety of ways to take your wedding to the beach. You can even combine a cruise with your wedding ceremony, reception or honeymoon.
A couple of things to consider as you plan: hurricane season, the crowds during summer and over spring break, and the tide cycles. Expect high winds at any time along the shore and remember that sea birds likely will flock near food.
Despite all that, beach weddings are a good idea for those looking for a casual, nontraditional and affordable affair.
Las Vegas
When it comes to Las Vegas weddings, don't assume it has to be quick and cheesy--not that there's anything wrong with that. Whether you want Elvis in a Pink Cadillac or a scenic nature wedding in nearby Boulder City, there's something for everyone. You can even get married in "Paris" if you wish, or the Little White Wedding Chapel where Britney Spears famously married a childhood friend. That's the thing about Vegas; anything goes, and there are choices for all levels of tastes and budgets.
The Woods and Mountains
For a peaceful destination wedding that will spare you flying seagulls or Elvis, consider a resort or collection of cabins in the woods or mountains. For example, Aspen, Colorado, is beautiful starting in mid-September as the leaves change colors for fall. After the wedding, hole up in a cabin for your honeymoon and catch the many festivals that take place at that time. Also consider the Texas Hill Country, where you won't be at the mercy of hurricane season or snow. resorts abound that cater to those who want to be married hillside, lakeside or even on the river.
Other Choices
For those who never grew up, a Disney theme park might be just the right setting for a wedding. Vineyard weddings also make a fine destination, and suitable choices abound throughout California. Other top choices in the United States include New York City, New Orleans and Hawaii.
If you're set on getting married abroad, popular choices include Paris, Rome and Venice on your list to research. The important thing is what the location means to you and your spouse-to-be, and that it makes you both happy.
