Known as the "Land of 10,000 Lakes," Minnesota is a fisherman's paradise all year-round. In the winter, locals and visitors brave the frigid temperatures to ice fish, and in the summer people from all over the country practice their angling skills. In addition to catching pan fish and trophy fish such as walleyes and northern pike, many fishermen opt to go bass fishing.
Mille Lacs Lake
Mille Lacs Lake is Minnesota's second-largest lake and is well known for its walleye fishing. However, many people are not aware that Mille Lacs is home to a large smallmouth bass population. The best fishing is from June to September and you will have your best chance to land some bass in the early morning or evening.
Lake Minnetonka
Located just 10 minutes west of Minneapolis, Lake Minnetonka's bass fishing is recognized as some of the best in the United States. Lake Minnetonka is home to numerous local and regional bass tournaments and has even hosted some national tournaments. Because of its close proximity to the Twin Cities, Lake Minnetonka is a great option for travelers who want to fish but also to enjoy the amenities that a large urban area has to offer.
Kabetogama Lake
Kabetogama Lake is located on the border between Minnesota and Canada in Voyageurs National Park. Extremely clean and unspoiled, Kabetogama is not only one of the best bass fishing lakes in Minnesota, but it offers a true natural encounter with nature.
Lake Pepin
Lake Pepin is a natural waterway that occurs where Wisconsin's Chippewa River delta runs into the Mississippi River, in the area where it borders Wisconsin and Minnesota. The lake is 3 miles wide and 21 miles long and the Mississippi River runs right through it. The majestic river bluffs and the chance to spot a bald eagle help lend to the appeal of fishing for bass that are abundant in the lake.
