Benson Hotel in Portland Review

Benson Hotel
Benson Hotel
The Benson Hotel is a throwback to old Portland, a classic turn of the century hotel that has added modern luxuries without sacrificing its timeless environment. The Benson is located in the heart of Portland's vibrant downtown, close to public transportation and within walking distance of the major shopping area, restaurants and the glamorous Pearl District.
Wows and Woes

The Queen Junior Suite is large and feels even larger. You melt into the bed. Unfortunately, most rooms offer only a view of the street. And the historic building does not provide much natural light.

Insider Tips

Visit with the highly knowledgeable concierge before taking on the town. The city's light-rail system, which includes both MAX and a trolley, is clean, easily accessible and best of all, free anywhere downtown.

Author's Most Memorable Moment

We took MAX to Washington Park where we literally went hiking though the forest with magnificent city views in the distance. We made our way down back into the city and walked to 24th street, where we enjoyed a fantastic lunch. An affordable cab dropped us back at the Benson for an afternoon nap.

Bottom Line

The Benson is one of only a handful of Portland Hotels that are truly classic, unique and memorable, without sacrificing the luxuries travelers expect.
