Roosting underneath the Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge in
Austin, Texas, lives the largest urban colony of bats in the world. Over 1.5 million Mexican Free-tailed bats live underneath this concrete arch bridge, which crosses Lady Bird Lake. The best viewing times are July through September, when each night at dusk the entire colony emerges from under the bridge to fly off in search of food.
