Alaska Vacation Activities
Those who visit Alaska generally do so because they have a great love of nature. Alaska is known for its fascinating wilderness, so to really see Alaska is to experience this wilderness firsthand. When planning an Alaska vacation, it is important to be aware of some of the remarkable outdoor experiences that can be undertaken.
Denali National Park
Tourists come here to see the rugged landscape and the wide array of wildlife, such as grizzly bears, wolves, caribou, dall sheep and moose. Tourists have the option of staying at the Denali Backcountry Lodge or the Denali Cabins.
Denali National Park is the home of Mount McKinley. At 20,320 feet, it is the highest in North America. Those who come to the park should be aware of the fact that Mount McKinley sometimes cannot be seen under certain weather conditions as it is 90 miles away from the entrance to the park. However, tourists can see Mount McKinley through plane tours such as the Denali Alaska Flightseeing Adventure.
Tourists can also take plane tours to see the glaciers or enjoy guided hiking tours. Not only do the hiking tours allow them to get as close to the glaciers as possible, but it is a great opportunity to learn about ice pools, ice bridges and glaciology. For more information on booking tours visitors can call (877) 233-6254.
Anchorage
Anchorage is Alaska's largest city. Start your tour at the Log Cabin Downtown Visitor Center, located on 4th Avenue & F Street. Friendly staff members can answer questions about Anchorage as well as provide tourists with maps and brochures.
Historic City Hall on 4th Avenue & E Street is a great place to get a better understanding of the culture and background of Anchorage. The lobby has an exhibition about the early days of Anchorage for free. On Wednesday and Fridays visitors can catch the Music in the Park concert series that is held on the grounds of Historic City Hall. From June through August, visitors can also sign up for the one-hour Historic City Tour that departs from here.
Redoubt Bay Fish Camp
This Alaskan location makes the perfect vacation for outdoor enthusiasts. The camp can only be reached via a private bush pilot. Visitors can call (877) 520-8440 for more information. Visitors stay in cabins that provide beautiful views of the river and mountains that surround the property. Activities include fishing, clam digging, hiking, wildlife watching and berry picking. Visitors can relax in the wood-fired hot tub after a full day of fun activities.
