Thousands of travelers plan
vacations to Argentina and other parts of
South America every year. Argentina is very accepting of tourists, making it easy to travel in and out of the country with little to no difficulty. If you are not a U.S. citizen, it is important to check with the requirements of both Argentina and your home country when planning a vacation.
From the U.S. to Argentina
To travel from the United States to Argentina, U.S. citizens must obtain a valid U.S. passport. The processing time can take up to six weeks, so plan accordingly. U.S. citizens may travel to Argentina for either business or pleasure, and will be asked in customs for their reason to travel to Argentina. Travelers are expected to answer all questions honestly and to completion in order to enter the country.
Extended Visits
A passport only allows U.S. citizens to stay in Argentina for up to 89 days. If a U.S. citizen has not returned back to the United States and plans on staying longer than ninety days, a visa must be obtained. If a U.S. citizen is planning on moving from the United States into Argentina, the trip is no longer considered a vacation. Do not wait the entire ninety days to fill out the proper paperwork with the Argentine government.
Driving in Argentina
Argentina accepts a valid U.S. driver's license throughout the capital and province of Buenos Aires. Driving in the rest of the country without an Argentine license is prohibited. Before traveling, it is important to note that driving in Argentina is much more dangerous since citizens are known to be aggressive when driving.
