Travelers should visit a doctor or clinic for the necessary vaccinations at least 4 to 8 weeks before departing for Brazil. Be aware that vaccinations may need to be started at different times, depending on whether you plan on staying for a long time (or even living there), or going on a short holiday.
Prevention/Solution
There are two different types of vaccines for malaria, depending on the area to be visited. However, vaccination may not be required if precautions (such as mosquito repellents with DEET, and treated bed netting) are used regularly.
Recommended Vaccines
All travelers should get vaccinations for Hepatitis A and B, typhoid and rabies.
Warning
For those born after 1956 (or who were never vaccinated), two doses of the measles/mumps/rubella vaccine are advised. Tetanus/diphtheria re-vaccination should be done every 10 years.
Other Precautions
Vaccinations for yellow fever should be done if traveling in Brazil, or if arriving from fever-infected areas of Africa and South America.
Warning
if you experience cold or flu symptoms up to a year after returning from Brazil, you should check with your doctor.
