If your iPod Video, also known as the iPod Fifth Generation, malfunctions, you have no reason to fear. Even if your iPod Video's menu is locking up or songs keep skipping, simply restarting your iPod Video will take care of most of these problems. Restarting your iPod Video has the same effect as restarting a computer; it clears the iPod's internal memory and allows it to reboot completely refreshed.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Things You'll Need:
  • An iPod Video
  • An iPod Video
Step 1

Press and hold the "Play/Pause" and the circular "Enter" buttons on the front of your iPod. The "Play/Pause" button is located at the top of the scroll wheel on the front of your device. The "Enter" button is the white circular unlabeled button in the center of the scroll wheel.

Step 2

Hold these buttons down for five to ten seconds, or until the "Apple" corporate logo appears on screen. Once the Apple logo appears on screen the device is shutting itself down and you can release the two buttons.

Step 3

Wait for the iPod Video's screen to go dark. This means the device is completely off.

Step 4

Press and hold the "Play/Pause" and "Enter" buttons again for another five to ten seconds. This will bring the Apple logo back up on screen. This means the device is turning itself back on. Once the iPod Video's main menu appears you can continue to use it as normal.
