About International Living in Ecuador

Living in Ecuador is a wonderful mix of excellent weather, wonderful people and outstanding food. Although there are some very rural areas, most urban homes have running water, electricity and cable. Many homes in Quito have hot water, and more Ecuadorians are having Internet connections placed in their homes. Foreigners living in Ecuador will find a welcoming community and diverse culture.
Climate

Quito, the capital of Ecuador, can get quite cool due to the high elevation. In the Amazonian rain forest it is hot, humid and wet. The coastal plains are very hot during summer, and warm and mild during winter.

Investing

Political leaders change on a regular basis, as do the laws regarding investing. Potential investors should evaluate the risks and potential payoffs before investing large sums of money.

Education

The school systems in Ecuador are excellent; there are international schools that teach in English, Spanish, French and other languages, too.

Real Estate

Real estate in Ecuador is quite affordable from an international standpoint. The vast majority of communities and buildings have 24-hour security guards to keep residents safe.

Banking

Two of the most popular banks are Banco de Pichincha and Banco de Guayaquil. Interest rates are usually higher than those offered in the United States or other industrialized nations.

Visa

Americans do not need a special visa to enter Ecuador, and will be granted a 90-day visa upon arrival.
