Information on San Cristobal Venezuela
San Cristobal is located in a valley of the Andes Mountains near the border of Columbia in northwestern Venezuela. It is the capital of the state of Tachira and is about 40 miles east of the city of Cucuta, Columbia. The economy is based on commerce, especially trade with Columbia. The people of San Cristobal are known for their hospitality, and the city is appropriately nicked named La Ciudad de la Cordialidad, or the Friendly City.
Towns
San Cristobal is comprised of a main city with smaller towns around the border. Some of these towns are San Pedro del Rio, Peribeca, Palmira, Abejales, Tariba and El Topon.
Architecture
San Cristobal is known for churches with beautiful architecture such as the colonial-style San Cristobal cathedral and the Gothic-style San Jose's church.
Festival
The Feria Internacional de San Sabastian is a popular festival that features bull fighting, bicycle races, a beauty pageant and an agricultural and animal fair. Artistic goods and special foods are featured in this festival, which is held at the end of January at the soccer grounds.
Waterfall
The Chorro el Indio (Indian's Shower) waterfall has a rainforest feel and is located on the outskirts of San Cristobal.
Nightlife
Plaza de los Mangos, located in the center of San Cristobal, features shops, nightclubs, ice cream parlors and live music halls.
