Things to Do in Mecca Saudi Arabia

The city of Mecca has existed on the Arabian Peninsula long before the country of Saudi Arabia became a country. Mecca is the holiest of the three holy cities of Islam. Not only is it the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad, who was the founder of Islam, but it is the direction of prayer for all Muslims. Only Muslims are allowed to enter the city and non-Muslims who try to pass the security checkpoints could be sentenced to death. Some things to do in Mecca, Saudi Arabia if you are a Muslim are listed below.
Pray at the Great Mosque

Mecca is home to Great Mosque (Masjid al Haram) which surrounds the Ka'ba, or holy cube which Muslims pray to. You can pray there all day and all night and take in its breathtaking architecture. You may also visit the Black Stone which is located inside the Great Mosque. Once believed to have fallen from heaven, the Black Stone is actually a meteorite used for decoration.

Drink Water from the Well of Zam Zam

It is believed that Muhammad claimed that the water from the Well of Zam Zam is the best water in the world because of its healing powers. The Well is located inside of the Great Mosque, however you may not drink directly from the well. After the Saudi government performed the last restoration on the mosque, it started placing the water in coolers all over the mosque. You may even bottle some of the water to bring home to your family and friends.

Visit Jabal Nur

Jabal Nur is a mountain close to Mecca which is the believed location of the Muhammad's revelation from God through the Angel Gabriel. The Cave of the HIra which is located on Jabal Nur is believed to be the exact location of Muhammad's revelation.
