Review of the Hotel Tej Marhaba
The Tej Marhaba in Tunisia is a hotel for tourists. Rated as a four-star hotel it is located in Salwa City and is surrounded by a unique garden that makes the stay and view charming. The entire complex is centrally air conditioned and located only one kilometer from the historical city of Sousse and only about 100 meters from the
beach of Boujaafar.
While many may be wary of going to Tunisia due to political unrest in the region, it is a wonderful place to visit. The history and culture of the nation is something that no one should miss. Excursions are planned by the tour desk and guests can book any trip they like. Whether it be sailing, golf or a tour of the surrounding regions.
Features
The hotel has 350 rooms and 67 apartments, all of which are well maintained. With central air conditioning and modern plumbing in the bathrooms, the rooms are comfortable if simple in décor. The rooms have direct-dial telephone and TV with satellite.
One thing the hotel can be given a five-star rating for is its food. There are three restaurants each having its own unique dishes. The Kheima is the grand restaurant that offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. The assortment of egg and jams and breads will get no complaints from the guests. The succulent meat that comes from the Barbeque Diner is grilled on wood and the Tunisian specialties are a must try. The Dolce Vita has good Italian dishes.
Pros and Cons
The Tej Marhaba was once a well-maintained and upscale hotel. Yet, even today, when the hotel management has let the maintenance of the hotel slide it is an ideal choice for most travelers. For guests who come to Tunisia to explore the culture and will spend more time out of the room than in it, the Tej Marhaba is an ideal hotel. To appreciate the hotel, guests have to remember this is not a European resort and for the lifestyle of an average Tunisian staying at the Tej is a luxury few can afford. There may be moments when you might regret the trip, especially when noticing the mold in the bathroom tiles, yet, the bigger picture-- with the comfortable beds, the scrumptious meals and the experience of the culture of Tunisia--more than make up for such regrets.
Bottom Line
The reception and the pool area look great, and though the carpet is worn, as is the color on the wall of the rooms, the management tries to ensure that the hygiene remains tiptop and that maids clean the rooms daily. The cracked crockery adds to the charm of the place, and if guests go with the understanding that the standards of Tunisia cannot be compared to that of Europe or America, then they will have no problem reining in the complaints and having a blast. Kids are not accommodated exclusively, but the pool area can be used by all ages. So for budget travelers this is the place to stay.
