Catalonia Yucatan and Catalonia Riviera Maya are all-inclusive
resorts located south of Cancun in the Mexican
Caribbean community of Puerto Aventuras. While both resorts offer extensive food and entertainment options to guests along with their price of lodging, those looking for a more spa-like experience may wish to visit Catalonia Yucatan during their vacation to
Mexico. As of 2009, Catalonia Yucatan was about $40 a night more than Catalonia Riviera Maya. Guests can usually stay at either
resort for no more than $215 per night, with Catalonia Riviera Maya prices usually hovering around $175 per night.
Room Comparison
Rooms at Catalonia Yucatan and Catalonia Riviera Maya both have air conditioning, full bathrooms with hair dryers, telephones, cable television, safe deposit boxes, and offer baby cots or extra beds if needed. However, the wireless Internet access is free at Catalonia Yucatan. There is a charge for the service at Catalonia Riviera Maya.
Water Activities Comparison
Both resorts offer an abundance of water activities to guests. No matter which resort you choose, you will be able to partake in diving classes, swim in outdoor pools, kayak, sail, windsurf, play water polo and participate in water aerobics classes. Catalonia Yucatan has the benefit of also offering a brand-new spa which includes an indoor heated pool.
Athletics Comparison
Catalonia Yucatan and Catalonia Riviera Maya offer a host of land-based activities and sports, including tennis, basketball, aerobics, shuffleboard, table tennis, and complete athletic courts and a gymnasium. However, those seeking services such as yoga, Pilates, or spinning likely will want to visit Catalonia Yucatan, because that resort offers a slightly more extensive land-based workout menu.
Entertainment Comparison
Both resorts appear comparable when it comes to entertainment. Guests at either Catalonia Yucatan or Catalonia Riviera Maya properties can use free transportation to Playa del Carmen, visit an extensive sports bar with a number of television stations, or send their kids to the children's club. There are also discos at each site, themed nights, bars, and live evening shows at the theater.
Food Comparison
Those seeking more diverse food choices, especially Japanese dishes, will want to stay at Catalonia Yucatan. While both resorts offer authentic Mexican cuisine, steak dinners, crepes, ice cream, snacks, and a number of juice and alcoholic-based cocktails, Catalonia Yucatan offers more food. Visitors to that resort can enjoy Japanese food and also pasta and pizza dishes.
