Sun Palace Cancun Review

The view from the balcony.
The view from the balcony.
The Sun Palace Cancun is the first couples-only resort in Cancun.
The hotel reopened in 2007 after a renovation with just over 250 rooms, most of them romantic suites with Jacuzzi, balcony and beach views.
The food is better than average and available through two buffets and several "classy casual" spots. The beach is perfect. Two pools offer guests a choice between quiet and convivial, with the latter containing a swim-up bar. Unlimited drinks may be obtained at any of several bars beginning at 8 a.m. and ending at 1 a.m.
Wows and Woes

The beach at the Sun Palace.

Wows: The beach is beautiful, soft and uncrowded. The drinks are plentiful. The staff is friendly. The room and grounds were immaculate.

Woe: The air conditioner unit was too loud (after several maintenance calls, it was finally quieter).

Insider Tips
The staff gave it their all.

The included tours are incredible opportunities. Reserve early and head for the the ruins or the zipline tour. The tours to the other resorts will end up in time share sales presentations.
Although gratuities are included, an occasional tip brings big rewards. Twenty dollars made the difference between a room and an available honeymoon suite. Another $20 to Jose at the swim-up bar brought a week of smiles and attention.

Author's Most Memorable Moment
Romantic moment.
Romantic moment.

The sunrise over the Caribbean sea at 7:02 a.m., replete with a bottle of champagne stored from the night before, made the perfect toast to seal a proposal. And at that hour, the beach was ours. Even the last stars in the sky found the moment magical.

Bottom Line
Romance is in the air.
Romance is in the air.

I have yet to see a better beach than at the Sun Palace. It outshines the Caymans and the Bahamas.
