Chichen Itza

Chichen Itza, Yucatan, the ancient Mayan capital, is treasured by people around the world for its archeological wonders, including the Pyramid of Kukulcan and the Juego de Pelota, an ancient ball court. Nearby, be sure to visit the Cenote Sagrado, a large sink hole that has yielded ancient offerings including jewelry and human bones. If you crave adventure and archeology, Chichen Itza is not to be missed. Traveling toward Cancun on Highway 180, Chichen Itza is about 74 miles east of Merida.

Oaxaca

Stunning Oaxaca City beckons visitors as a famous center for arts and crafts. You can observe crafts people at work creating colorful pottery and figurines Oaxaca is known for worldwide. Also try the food---tamales, Oaxacan cheese and mezcal are favorite fare among residents and visitors. At the same time, visit some of Oaxan's landmark architecure, including el Teatro Macedonio Alcala and la Basilica de la Soledad. To reach Oaxaca, fly into Huatulco and take Highway 175 for about 169 miles.

Taxco

Historic buildings, classic architecture, beautiful gardens and excellent regional dining in one of Taxco's family-run restaurants make listing the city of Taxco as a must visit on your itinerary of Mexican destinations. To reach Taxco, travel on Highway 95 for approximately 93 miles south of Mexico City.
