About Huatulco

Huatulco is located in the State of Oaxaca at the foothills of the Sierra Madre Mountain Range. Huatulco has nine secluded bays with miles of fine sandy beaches and jungles to explore. The area has an average yearly temperature of 82 degrees Fahrenheit.
Hotels

Huatulco has hotels to fit any budget and there is a wide range of choices in each price range. Choices in the budget range include not only hotels, but a trailer park. There is more of a selection in the moderate price range, including bed and breakfasts, private condos, private homes, and large hotels. The selection in the expensive price range includes beachfront condos, beachfront homes and full-service beachfront resorts.

Restaurants

One thing that is indicative of a top travel destination is the number and the variety of restaurants. Huatulco has a wide selection of restaurants, both at the hotels and resorts and in the village as well. Restaurants in Huatulco run the gambit from traditional Mexican dishes, to Irish pubs, pizza, French restaurants, delis, Italian restaurants, seafood restaurants, casual restaurants serving hamburgers and beer, tacos and bar food.

Festivals

There are two major festivals held in Huatulco each year. Coming to Huatulco during one of these festivals will add an extra dimension to a vacation. The first one is the Bird Festival, held at the end of October. It includes films, workshops and trips to the countryside for bird watching. The second one is the Music Festival, which has been held every year in May since 1994. Musicians from Mexico and other countries perform in the festival, and all of the proceeds go for environmental conservation.

Activities

Outdoor activities abound in Huatulco. Visitors can experience sport fishing for sailfish, marlin, snapper, tuna fish or dorado. There is also horseback riding, river rafting, snorkeling, scuba diving, bicycle riding, golf, rock climbing, zip lining and surfing at any one of four world-class surfing beaches. For those who like handmade items for themselves or to give as gifts, there is the handicrafts market in the main plaza of Bahia de Santa Cruz .

One way to find out about a new place is to take a guided tour. Tour operators in Huatulco offer tours of the coffee plantations, bird-watching trips in the jungle, tours of the bay on a sailboat, Jet Ski tours, four-wheel ATV expeditions, charter bus tours and tours of the jungle.
