Facts About Copper Canyon Mexico
Copper Canyon is a canyon system located in the middle of the Sierra Madre Mountain Range, in Chihuahua,
Mexico. Its 25,000 square miles is diversified with pine and oak trees, plateaus, ranges and mountain peaks.
Identification
Named from the hues of its landscape, the Copper Canyon mountain range is comprised of six canyons: Sinforosa, Uirque, Copper, Batopilas, Taratecua and Oteros.
Effects
The landscape of the Copper Canyon range is fed from the rivers that originate in the pine forests, and from the heavy summer rains.
The Tarahumara People
The Tarahumara, or Raramuri Indigeneous people, inhabit the natural Copper Canyon area. They are known for their endurance running, shy and modest nature, traditional homes and authentic crafts.
Weather
The Copper Canyon rainy season begins in July, followed by mild temperatures from October to November. The coldest months are from November through March, followed by the mild temperatures of March through April. April through June are the warmest months with very little rainfall, and droughts can occur at this time.
Tourism
Touring the Copper Canyon by taking a ride on the Chihuahua Al Pacifico Railroad is the most popular choice. Visitors can also tour the canyon by hiking, driving, bicycling or horseback riding.
