Fishing
Cabo San Lucas is a located on the Pacific Coast and offers miles of ocean for offshore fishing. This destination also offers many fishing tours for visitors. In January, people who love fishing can try to catch fish such as cabrilla, black marlin and yellowfin tuna.
Whale Watching
In the month of January, hit the beach just before the sun goes down. In this month, watch whales jumping in the ocean as the sun sets. These whales seasonally migrate from the Bering Strait to the warmer waters of the coast of Baja California Sur near Cabo San Lucas. One great place to watch the whales is Magdalena Bay.
Religious Festival
The sixth of January is an important day for the Mexican culture's large Catholic population to celebrate the Day of Kings or Festival de los Reyes. Many Mexicans choose this day to conduct their Christmas gift exchange or to exchange gifts for a second time after Christmas. On this day in Cabo San Lucas, visitors can walk the city streets and observe processions in honor of the Day of Kings. It is also a day to visit local Catholic churches and celebrate the day that the Three Kings visited Baby Jesus.
Sea Lion Colony
January in the Cabo San Lucas region is a prime month for observing a sea lion colony from the deck of a tour boat or aboard a rented speed raft. Tourists can see the largest sea lion colony in the Cabo region at Cabo Pulmo National Park. Some tour operators combine the sea lion viewing with the fishing or whale watching experience. Sea lions sun themselves on the beach at Cabo Pulmo from January to October.
