While many hotels in Cancun cater to those on spring break, there are great choices for families. A Club Med family
resort, the Marriott CasaMagna and the Ritz Carlton all welcome children and have special amenities and programs for them. Cancun
beaches have soft sand and gentle waves, making them perfect for youngsters.
Wows and Woes
Drinking water at major resorts is purified, and many restaurants also have their own purification systems. You can carry bottled water with you, or buy it when you're touring, but sleep-deprived new parents should be wary of the water used to make coffee.
Insider Tips
Get change if you want to take the public bus; bus drivers charge tourists whatever they think they will pay, but if you have correct change and know the fare, you will save money.
Author's Most Memorable Moment
Our family of two teens and a 'tweener' doesn't always agree on where to go, but we all loved the activities at Xel-Ha, floating in tubes in clear water, jumping off a cliff and snorkeling.
Bottom Line
You can get great deals on hotels in summer, where temperatures on the beach (as opposed to inland) are not that high. But restaurants and tourist attractions have fixed prices.
