College students love Cancun for its sun-drenched beaches during the annual ritual known as Spring Break. However, Cancun and the nearby Isla Mujeres have much more to offer travelers of all stripes. This diverse destination is home to world-class hotels, fine dining, great shopping and plenty of activities to keep a vacation from ever getting boring.
Relaxing Activities

Sometimes the best activity is just doing nothing and letting others pamper you. Few areas in the world can rival Cancun as a great place to relax. More than 30 spa resorts call Cancun home and most of the hotels offer spa treatments. At the Aventura Spa Palace, an adults only establishment on a lush 85 acres, you can enjoy a traditional Mayan Temazcal steam bath complete with soothing music and herbal scents infused with the steam. The Hotel Villa Rolandi Thalasso - Spa, Gourmet and beach Club on Isla Mujeres offers Thalassotherapy, an ancient form of therapy that involves such techniques as algae baths and sea water massages. If your taste runs to chocolate, the JW Marriott Cancun resort & Spa features a luxurious cocoa body scrub followed by the application of a full body chocolate mask.

Adventure Activities

Cancun and Isla Mujeres are lined with white sand beaches and are home to crystal clear water, making the area perfect for water sports. The water is an excellent place for kayaking and the local reefs offer both seasoned scuba divers and amateur snorkelers the opportunity to experience the life aquatic. For those who like to interact with other intelligent life forms, the area is one of the best places in the world to swim with dolphins. Experienced divers can also dive the Sleeping Shark's Cave among whale sharks and huge manta rays.

Educational Activities

Situated on the southeast coast of the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, Cancun and Isla Mujeres were once part of the Mayan Empire. Vacationers on Isla Mujeres can stroll to the southern tip of the island to Punta Sur which rises 60 feet above sea level and visit the temple of the Mayan Moon Goddess, Ixchel. Punta Sur offers an excellent view of the landscape, the cliffs and ancient Mayan architecture. Another popular attraction, the Garrafon Natural Reef Park is home to numerous ecological treasures, including its beautiful reefs and fascinating wildlife.
