Cabo San Lucas Travel Guide
Located on the Basal Peninsula, Cabo San Lucas is
Mexico's ultimate party town. Whether you want to golf, participate in water sports, or just hang out on the
beach, Cabo San Lucas will not disappoint you. Even better, Cabo San Lucas offers vacation options for every budget.
Cabo San Lucas Car Rentals
You will need a car to travel around Cabo San Lucas, but beware. When you arrive in the airport, prepare to be accosted by throngs of car rental salespeople, who will offer you free or discounted car rentals if you agree to listen to a sales pitch. These pitches can take hours, and you don't want to waste your entire day inside a timeshare hotel. Hold your ground, and firmly state that you are only interested in renting a car.
En Route from the Airport to Cabo San Lucas
San Jose Del Cabo is the closest town to the airport. You will have to drive through it to reach Cabo San Lucas, but you might want to stop and explore the town, which is characterized by its pastel-colored cottages and charming tree-lined boulevards. This quaint little town has some great restaurants and art galleries.
The Beaches of Cabo San Lucas
El Arco
Although they are beautiful, the beaches may be the only downside of Cabo San Lucas. The tide is so fierce, that many people are dragged in by the undertow when they are simply taking a stroll in the sand. To compensate, many hotels have extensive swimming pools. However, if you want to swim in the ocean, head to Playa Medano, which is within walking distance of downtown Cabo San Lucas.
El Arco
The glass bottom boat ride to El Arco is one of the high points of any trip to Cabo San Lucas. These stone arches mark the confluence of the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez. Although El Arco is a sight to behold, getting there is half the fun. The boat drivers often carry fish, which tempts the sea lions to come and visit the boat.
Lovers Beach
The glass bottom boat ride also goes to Lover's Beach, which is somewhat less crowded than the main beaches. If you stay on the Sea of Cortez side of the beach, you can safely swim or snorkel.
Cabo San Lucas Marina
Artisans display and sell their work along the Cabo San Lucas Marina. A local wildlife organization has a booth. For a fee, you can be photographed while holding a lion cub.
Cabo Nightlife
The Giggling Marlin is a popular Cabo San Lucas party spot and restaurant. The food is tasty and affordable. Seafood lovers should check out the shrimp fajitas. The Giggling Marlin has a specialty drink called the Skip and Go Naked, which is composed of a variety of fruit juices and their supposedly secret liquors. The restaurant also has its own rooster, which might pay a visit to your table. The Giggling Marlin is located on Marina Boulevard, which is the main road in downtown Cabo San Lucas.
