If you are a
United States citizen who wishes to visit the European nation of Greece for 90 days or less, then you do not need any type of visa. However, if you plan to stay in the country longer than that, you will definitely need the appropriate visa (MFA.gr).

Greek visa application forms require that individuals fill out fields detailing personal information, such as their full name, last name at birth (if different), date of birth, location of birth, current and original nationality, marital status and full names of both mother and father.
Passport Information
Information regarding the individual's passport must be noted, including the type of passport, passport number, date that the passport was issued, and who (as well as where) the passport was issued. It is also crucial to note when the passport expires. Be sure to use a passport that is currently valid (passports generally expire after 10 years).

It is also necessary to note exactly what type of visa you need (such as transit, long stay or short stay). It is important to fill out how long you intend to remain in Greece as well.

Applicants must specify the exact purpose for their travel to Greece. Some of the options include tourism, visit with family or friends, medical reasons, sports and business. Schengen Visa
A Schengen Visa might be a good idea for people who want to travel to Greece for tourism purposes, particularly if they wish to see many other European countries at the same time. With a Schengen Visa, a tourist can travel to up to 15 European nations (including Greece) without having to get separate visas for each individual country. This makes travel to Greece and within Europe much easier and with significantly less hassle. If you are traveling inside of the Schengen countries, you can stay in Europe (and Greece) for a period of 90 days maximum (within 6 months). Other Schengen countries include Norway, Spain, Denmark, Sweden and several others. To apply for a Schengen visa, you must apply at the Greek Consulate or Embassy.
Student Visas
United States nationals (and those from all European Union nations, Japan, Israel, Canada and Australia) can study in Greece for a maximum of 3 months (90 days) without obtaining a student visa. However, for periods longer than that, the student must apply (in person at the Greek Consulate or Embassy) and present a letter directly from the Greek University or college (stating that they are indeed going to be studying there), a certificate of health, proof that the applicant has no criminal record, photocopy of passport, passport-style pictures and a signed declaration form. The time it takes to get a visa varies generally between 4 and 10 days. The cost ranges between $20 and $45.
Work Permits
To get a work permit for employment in Greece, you must apply for one from the Ministry of Labor. The permit's validity depends on the nature of the employment and time it involves. The decision is ultimately made by the Ministry of Labor. In order to receive a work permit in Greece, a person must seek a sponsor in Greece who can assist in the employment application. Only in Greece can the work permit be issued. The processing time ranges between 5 and 7 days, generally.
Business Visas
Business visas can be issued for a maximum of 3 months (90 days) and permit the visa holder to go about conducting business in Greece (including going to meetings, workshops and seminars and handling contracts). However, the visa does not permit the holder to receive compensation while handling business in Greece. The visa is a one-time entry visa and costs between $20 and $45 to process.
