With its rolling landscapes, stunning
beaches, grand architecture and historical significance, Italy offers many reasons to visit. Italy's status as an international destination provides numerous travel options including rail, airplane, boat and automobile.
Air Travel
Italy's main airline, Alitalia, serves 74 international destinations with more than 2,500 flights a week serving Rome, Fiumicino, Milan, Turin, Venice, Naples and Catania.
Rail Travel
ItaliaRail offers many cross-border trains offering service between cities in Italy and European destinations such as Paris, Barcelona, Munich, Vienna and Monte Carlo.
Boat Travel
Surrounded on three sides by water, traveling to Italy by boat offers numerous options. Major cruise lines serving Italian ports include Holland America, Princess, Carnival, Celebrity, Regency and Royal Caribbean.
Considerations
With sandy beaches and warmer weather in the south, to ski resorts in the Alps of northern Italy, traveling through several different regions of Italy can sometimes present issues with how and what type of clothing to pack.
Time Frame
The months of May and September represent the most popular times for tourists. July and August are the summer low season. Tourism also drops during the winter months of November through March.
