Traveling in Austria

Images of Vienna's broad pavilions, gothic architecture and Hapsburg glory may come to mind when considering this beautiful country as a destination. But outside the capital, there is much to see and do. From trekking the Alps around Innsbruck to paying homage to Mozart in charming Salzburg to visiting the historic spa town of Bad Ischl, Austria's travel possibilities may surprise you.
Getting There

Vienna is the major air hub, connecting all regional cities by regular flights. Railways and highways connects neighboring countries such as Germany, Italy, Hungary and Slovakia.

Getting Around

The --sterreiche Bundesbahn is Austria's efficient and extensive rail network. Other options include bus, car rental and tram within major cities.

Weather & When to Go

Although Austria's long winters are ideal travel times for winter sports enthusiasts, April and October is the high season for travelers seeking warm, pleasant weather.

Money & Costs

Austria uses the euro and is not over-expensive relative to other European countries, although the capital can be pricey. Midrange travelers should expect to spend at least 70 euros per day.
