Warsaw is a travel destination that has been slowly growing in popularity ever since the country shed its Eastern Bloc communist affiliations in 1989. Since that time, the free markets of democracy have helped transform Poland's capital into a destination that offers true Old-World charm combined with New-World attractions.
Things to Do in Warsaw
Though much of Warsaw's Old-World architecture was destroyed during World War II, stunning architectural buildings can still be found in historic Old Town. Here, the government has painstakingly rebuilt a sector of prewar Warsaw based on old photographs and paintings. Other historical attractions include the Palace of Culture and Science, Lazienski Park and the Museum of the 1944 Warsaw Uprising. For more cosmopolitan attractions, there are plenty of hip restaurants and pubs. Loz, sometimes called the Polish Manchester, is a good spot for nightlife.
Transportation in Warsaw
Likely, you'll be arriving in Warsaw via the Warsaw Frederic Chopin Airport. Buses, taxis and even trains are available to take you to your hotel from the airport. Bus stops are also prevalent throughout the city and may be a good option for hopping from one destination to another. However, taxis are more convenient and almost as affordable. Taxi fares come with a maximum possible fee, which varies depending on the time of day (so long as you stay within the city). Though some surcharges may apply, you will not need to pay extra for additional passengers or luggage. Taxi drivers also do not expect a tip.
When to Visit Warsaw
A vacation in Warsaw can be enjoyable at any time of the year. However, the pleasant weather of summer may make the warmer months the best time to enjoy parks and outdoor destinations. Additionally, many of the city's attractions are indoors, meaning that they can be enjoyed all year long.
