Munich is a city that allows travelers to experience the rich foods and traditions of Bavaria. Beautiful architecture, beer gardens and authentic German cuisine are a few of the many reasons that this city is popular with tourists. There are so many fun things to do, so it is likely you will have a difficult time choosing which ones you most want to take part in. Here are some ideas.
Relax in the Englischer Garten

Nothing can compare to the vast beauty of the Englischer Garten, or English Garden, within Munich. Numerous, stunning trees are spread among acres of green space. With a rich history, it holds the title of the "First public garden on the continent." Locals and visitors walk the winding paths, rest on the benches or play sports on the open grasses. They can be difficult to find, but there are several wonderful beer gardens within the park. If you walk around the paths and follow the noise, you will eventually get to two of these favorite spots. The first is the Chinesischer Turm, or Chinese Tower. There is an upscale, indoor restaurant on the grounds, but for laid-back fun stick to the beer garden. Food is available, but it is more fun to stop by a local supermarket and pick up a few things for a picnic, grab a bench and go get your stein of beer. Another great place to pass the time is the restaurant and biergarten "Zum Aumeister." Rows and rows of tables and benches are set among a gravel lot under trees. Be sure to snack on the gigantic and quite tasty pretzels along with your liter stein of German beer.

Enjoy Food and Fun at the Hofbräuhaus

Yes, it is true that the Hofbräuhaus is a highly tourist-filled establishment, but that doesn't take away from the delicious food and beer and the lively atmosphere being offered there. Sausages, kraut and dumplings all typical to the area can be found on the menu. Be sure to start your meal with a giant pretzel and end it with some sweet apple strudel. This restaurant allows you to join in a lively party or slowly sip your beer while relaxing all in one place. You can choose to sit in the main dining room which tends to get a bit loud, or you can retreat to the outdoor beer garden and the open air rooms surrounding it. Be sure to swing by the gift shop before leaving and get your own liter stein and many other beer-focused souvenirs.

Visit Allianz-Arena

If you are a sports fan or just want to see some amazing architecture, hop on the metro and head out to the Allianz-Arena. Follow the path and the crowds out to the impressive stadium. Even on days that no soccer teams are playing, the stadium is open for you to have a look around. One 75-minute tour in English is offered daily except when there is a game scheduled. You can also browse through gift shops and grab a quick sausage and beer to enjoy outside. The field is perfectly manicured and the bubble-like exterior of the arena glows red on the evenings when Bayern Munich is playing, the team which calls this arena home.
