Next to the Seine in Paris, the Eiffel Tower is an architectural marvel. Built by Gustave Eiffel in 1889, it has hosted millions of visitors. Tours are conducted in all major languages. You need only look for the flag that represents your country to join a tour.
Iron
The tower is made of "puddle iron" or wrought iron.
Ride or Climb
You can also take an elevator to the first two levels. You must pay a fee, however. The final level is not accessible by public stairs. You must pay full fare for this final ascent, even if you climbed the first two levels.
Built
The Tower was built to celebrate the 1889 World's Fair and was meant to be taken down 20 years later.
View
On a clear day, you can see up to 42 miles from the top of the tower.
Fun Fact
The Eiffel Tower is painted every seven years in three shades of brown using old-fashioned paint brushes.
