About the London Tower Bridge

Tower Bridge is one of London's most photographed attractions. Often confused for London Bridge, this attraction is almost like the face of London appearing on everything from coffee mugs to postcards.
Building

Tower Bridge is not as old as it appears. The structure was completed in 1894. It was designed by Sir Horace Jones and engineered by Sir John Wolfe-Barry.

Structure

Tower Bridge was constructed with steel and is covered with Portland Stone.

Size

As London's largest bridge, Tower Bridge sits 200 feet across the River Thames. Its towers stand 206 feet tall.

Operation

Tower Bridge is a working draw bridge. Watching the bridge raise for boats traveling the Thames is an attraction itself. A current timetable is available on the official website.

Exhibit

If you are interested in the history of Tower Bridge or to discover the best views of London, visit the Tower Bridge Exhibition. The exhibit is hands on and takes you on a tour through both towers and the original boiler rooms full of Victorian boilers and its original steam engine.
