Phone a friend in England.
You have placed plenty of phone calls in your lifetime, the vast majority of which were likely within the U.S. Yet if you have a friend, relative or business contact living in England, you may find the thought of placing an international phone call a little intimidating. Thankfully it's quite simple. All you need to do is dial a few additional numbers.

Step 1
Pick up your phone. If you are using an international phone card, dial their number first and follow their directions.
Step 2
Dial the prefix "011." This indicates that you are making an international phone call from the U.S.
Step 3
Dial "44." This indicates that you are placing a call to England.
Step 4
Dial the area code. This indicates which city or area you are calling to and should be included with the phone number. These begin with a "0" followed by two or more digits, depending on the area. For instance, London's code is "020."
Step 5
Dial the phone number -- you're now ready to have your conversation.
