Barleylands is a great way to settle into the country pace of Essex. The enormous property includes a Craft Village, a complex of sixty live studios where visitors can watch professional artists create pieces for sale. At the Farm Center people can play with the animals, ride tractors, or just enjoy a stroll around the farm. The Farmer's Market is stocked with sumptuous local produce. Finally there are two restaurants, The Magic Mushroom and the Hives Restaurant, where visitors can enjoy a cup of tea or a fresh, delicious meal. Ticket prices range from $9.50 to $11.50, but the farm also offers a family ticket (two adults and two children for $36).

Visitors can literally walk in the footsteps of John Constable as they wander the small natural reserve. In addition to several culturally significant 17th century buildings, the reserve is dotted with local wildlife, flora and a winding river. Furthermore, this slice of history and nature does not charge admission.
